Overall, the profile piece was the most enjoyable assignment in this class that we have done so far. I found it super enjoyable to learn more about this person who I am already so interested in. I felt super honored to be telling Mourad’s story, and it felt like an important job. I wanted to make sure that I did Mourad justice, and that was my inspiration while writing this piece.
Structuring this piece was also a lot easier than previous articles I have worked on. The narrative kind of fell into place on its own, and the placement of the information I have made perfect sense. I wanted to lay it our chronologically, but also tie in Mourad’s work at UNE throughout the whole piece, and use a kind of braided structure. I think that I did accomplish this, but I changed this format a small amount during the editing process.
One of the most frustrating parts of working on this project was that I was not able to get an interview with Mourad’s coworker. Mourad runs UNE Tangier alongside another person, and after a few attempts at reaching out, I did not receive responses to my questions. I felt that this angle was missing in my story, but as Mourad really only works closely with one other person, it was hard to have this aspect of Mourad shown in my story.
Overall, I am really proud of the work I did on my profile. I feel that this piece helped me to grow as a writer, teaching me a new kind of writing, and helped me to grow my interview skills. This piece also gave me more of an opportunity to learn about Mourad’s life, as well as Morocco.
