Part 1: A piece from Small on page 12 that I feel perfectly sums up why I made the switch into the humanities is when she writes that reading Woodsworth saved John Stuart Mill from “the mental aridity of an unsentimental education.” Coming from the psychology program, I feel a different connection to the program that I am in now. My education has taken on a new meaning since my major switch, and I am so much more excited about learning now that I can apply my own touch to the work I produce in a way that I couldn’t in psychology. I can tie in the emotions and experiences that I go through in my life, as well as use my own experiences to relate to others and tell stories through my writing, which gives me a strong purpose and gives me more interest in my education.
Part 2: Overall, my interest in future jobs is fully in writing. I enjoy the writing side of communications more than anything else, and during my internship, I found that the projects that I enjoyed the most were writing. I like to be behind the scenes, and while I have found that I am good at interviewing people, I do not particularly enjoy it. I see myself as a technical writer, as I enjoy researching and writing pieces having to do with many different disciplines.
